SIC ICWC Held Its Third Webinar on Fundamentals of Water Management

On March 31, SIC ICWC held its third webinar for BWO Syr Darya. The event brought together more than 30 employees representing the Naryn-Karadarya, Gulistan (including the Dustlik Canal), and Upper Chirchik Hydroscheme Authorities, as well as the Charvak Reservoir Authority.

SIC ICWC experts N. Mirzaev and A. Risbekov delivered presentations.

Mr. Mirzaev presented the third lecture in the “Water Management” series titled “Water Supply Management in Central Asia: Physical Heritage, Lessons Learned, and Contemporary Challenges.” The lecture aimed to provide participants with a systematic understanding of the role of tangible (natural and man-made) water infrastructure heritage in modern water management. The presentation covered the classification of water heritage sites based on management criteria, the evolution of irrigation infrastructure, an assessment of both the positive and negative aspects of heritage, and the relationship between tangible heritage and Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) principles. The lecture also addressed approaches to formulating modernization principles.

Mr. Risbekov delivered a presentation “Climate and Water.” At the beginning of his talk, he briefly revisited the previous topic on global transboundary rivers and the Aral Sea basin, highlighting their regional importance. He then explained the concept of climate, examined the key drivers of climate change, and reviewed major international frameworks addressing climate change.

SIC ICWC continues implementing training initiatives aimed at enhancing knowledge and capacity of water professionals.
