Meeting of the Council of Heads of State – Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea

On April 22, a meeting of the Council of Heads of State – Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) was held at the Akorda Presidential Residence, chaired by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

During the meeting, speeches were delivered by President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and Askhat Orazbay, Chairman of the IFAS Executive Committee.

Following the summit, the participants signed the following documents:

• Decision of the Heads of IFAS Founder States “On the progress of the Republic of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship of IFAS”;
• Decision of the Heads of IFAS Founder States “On designating March 26 as the International Day of the Aral Sea, the Amu Darya, and the Syr Darya rivers”;
• Decision of the Heads of IFAS Founder States “On the election of the President of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea”;
• The Astana Declaration of the Heads of State – Founders of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
