SIC ICWC Participated in the Inception Workshop on the Project “Strengthening Water Resource Governance and Resilience to Climate Change in the Aral Sea Region”
On 26 May 2026, an inception workshop for the Project “Strengthening Water Resource Governance and Resilience to Climate Change in the Aral Sea Region” was held in Tashkent.
The workshop brought together representatives of national and regional government agencies, international organizations, farmer associations, water institutions, and development partners to discuss approaches to project implementation, expected outcomes, and opportunities for cooperation.
The $4.6 million initiative is to be implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in close collaboration with the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, with financial support from the Government of Japan. The project aims to strengthen climate-resilient water management, modernize irrigation infrastructure, introduce digital water monitoring systems, and support sustainable livelihoods in the Aral Sea region
On behalf of SIC ICWC, G. Stulina attended the workshop.
The initiative contributes to the implementation of Uzbekistan’s national priorities outlined in the Concept for the Development of the Water Sector for 2020–2030 and the “Uzbekistan–2030” Strategy. These policy frameworks aim to improve the efficiency of land and water use, modernize water infrastructure, and expand the application of water-saving technologies throughout the country.
The project also supports the broader vision of transforming the Aral Sea region into a hub for environmental innovation and technology through climate change adaptation, digitalization, and sustainable community development.
During the workshop, participants discussed planned activities for 2026, mechanisms of coordination among project partners, and opportunities for strengthening cooperation in support of sustainable and inclusive water management in the region.
