Monitoring Mission to EU- UNEP Project Sites in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan
From 8 to 19 June 2026, a monitoring mission was conducted to project sites in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan under the EU–UNEP Partnership project “Facilitating Region-Specific Approaches to Addressing Climate- and Environment-Related Risks for Socio-Economic Stability” in Central Asia. The mission was carried out by Sh. Muminov, Project Leader and Deputy Director of SIC ICWC, and B. Gozhenko, Project Manager for Monitoring and Assessment.
From 8 to 12 June, accompanied by M. Asatov, Project Coordinator for the Kyrgyz Republic, and Zh. Ubaidilayeva, Environmental and Gender Expert for the Kyrgyz Republic, the mission visited Osh and Kara-Suu districts in Osh province and Suzak district in Jalal-Abad province. The team reviewed the progress made by NGO “Central Asian Alliance for Water and Ecology,” the NGO “New Rhythm,” and the consortium of NGO “Orchun” and NGO “Independent Environmental Expertise.”
Throughout the mission, the team assessed the implementation of nature-based solutions designed to enhance climate resilience in local communities, reviewing progress achieved from the launch of subprojects in March 2026 through June 2026.
From 13 to 14 June, accompanied by Zh. Saimatov, Project Coordinator for the Republic of Uzbekistan, and O. Yakubova, Environmental and Gender Expert for Uzbekistan, the mission visited Fergana district in Fergana province and Pakhtabad district in Andijan province. The team inspected activities implemented by the consortium of NGO “Ho‘kandi Latif Kelajagi” and the Fergana regional branch of the Association of NGOs of Uzbekistan, as well as the consortium of NGO “Salomatlik Plus Ecology” and NGO “Hamroh.”
From 16 to 19 June, accompanied by L. Sultonov, Project Coordinator for the Republic of Tajikistan, and N. Hikmatullozoda, Environmental and Gender Expert for Tajikistan, the mission visited Jabbor Rasulov, Konibodom, and Asht districts in Sughd province. The team reviewed the progress made by NGO “Agency for Rural Community Development,” NGO “Youth Group for Environmental Protection,” and the consortium of NGO “Safi” and NGO “Subhi Tandurusti.”
In the course the mission, the team also assessed key achievements from implementation of nature-based solutions to enhance climate resilience of local communities since the launch of subprojects in March 2026 through June 2026.
At each site, the team and grant recipients discussed key challenges encountered during implementation and explored practical solutions to address them. Meetings were also held with subproject implementers and representatives of local communities, providing an opportunity to gather recommendations for the implementation of activities and project outcomes.
