SIC ICWC Studies the State of the Automated Control System of the Southern Ferghana Main Canal

On 2 October 2026, D. Usmankhodjayev, a specialist from SIC ICWC, visited the Southern Ferghana Main Canal (SFMC), where he held a working meeting with R. Madrakhimov, a canal specialist. The meeting focused on the current state of the automated control system of the main canal, which is one of the most important irrigation facilities in the Ferghana Valley. The existing automation system for water distribution processes was assessed, and the main technical and organizational challenges affecting the efficiency of canal operation were identified. Particular attention was paid to prospects for further modernizing the automated control system through the use of modern digital technologies, telemetry and SCADA systems, as well as intelligent monitoring tools for assessing the condition of hydraulic structures.

Special attention was also given to ensuring a stable and autonomous power supply for the system's facilities. Solar photovoltaic panels have been installed at several sections of the canal, including locations far from centralized power grids. The use of solar energy enables the automated system's equipment—including monitoring devices, communication systems, sensors and other infrastructure—to operate reliably and without interruption.

The working meeting resulted in the development of relevant recommendations for further improving and modernizing the automated system of the Southern Ferghana Main Canal. During the meeting, the specialists also discussed the current issues and challenges associated with the canal's automated management system and considered proposals for addressing them. The findings of the study will be used to prepare an article assessing the current state of the automated system of the Southern Ferghana Main Canal.
