VISIT OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ISRAELI EMBASSY IN UZBEKISTAN

Representatives of the Israeli Embassy in Uzbekistan visited the Scientific-Information Center of ICWC on the 22nd of August. This delegation consisted of Ms. Orli Gil, Head of Unit at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Hagit Muallem, Deputy Ambassador, and Ms. Yulia Olkhovskaya, MASHAV Program coordinator.

Deputy Director Dr. V.I.Sokolov, heads of divisions and key experts of SIC ICWC welcomed the delegation.

The delegation was presented the structure and history of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (ICWC) of Central Asia, its approaches and the issues of transboundary cooperation. Cooperation tools, such as the water-environmental portal - CAWater-Info - and information system, developed successfully by SIC and applied under umbrella of ICWC were addressed as well.

Deputies Director SIC ICWC Dr. Vadim Sokolov and Dr. Dinara Ziganshina had a meeting with the Israeli Ambassador in Uzbekistan Carmela Shamir on 26th of August. They informed H.E. Mrs. Shamir about measures implemented by SIC in support of regional transboundary water cooperation in Central Asia. The future visit of ICWC members and regional organizations to WATEC Israel in October 2013 was discussed as well.

MEETING WITH CHUCK CULLOM

Chuck Cullom, Colorado River Programs Manager at the Central Arizona Project visited SIC ICWC on the 27th of August. The purpose of his trip is to conduct a series of lectures and meet with interested parties on issues related to water resources management and environmental policy. This visit is a direct follow-up to Dr. Aaron Wolf’s visit to Tashkent in April 2013 on transboundary water negotiation.

SIC ICWC was represented by Deputy Directors Dr. V.I.Sokolov and Dr. D.R.Ziganshina and heads of divisions A.G. Sorokin, D.A. Sorokin, and I.F. Beglov.

Mr. Cullom was presented the structure and history of the Interstate Coordination Water Commission (ICWC) of Central Asia, its approaches and the issues of transboundary cooperation. Cooperation tools, such as the water-environmental portal - CAWater-Info - and information system and the model ASBmm developed by SIC were addressed as well.

Mr. Cullom told about complications of relations between the USA and Mexico and underlined his understanding about how difficult is to establish cooperation between the five countries.
