“CLEAN WATER OF RUSSIA– 2017” SYMPOSIUM AND EXHIBITION
On April 18-20, 2017, the 14th International Scientific Practical Symposium and Exhibition - “Clean Water of Russia-2017” - was held in Yekaterinburg at the ground of «ExpoBuildRussia» Forum.
The event was organized by the Russian Research Institute for Integrated Water Management and Protection with the support of the Federal Agency of Water Resources and the Sverdlovsk province Government.
The events were organized within the framework of the Year of Ecology proclaimed in the Russian Federation. Representatives of scientific institutions in Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Uzbekistan, the Netherlands, Finland, Italy, water experts and executive officers of the Federation constituent members, representatives of water using industries, environmental NGOs, as well as supervisory bodies dealing with environment took part in the events.
The main topic of the Symposium 2017 is the “Implementation of the Water Strategy of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2020”.
The program included a plenary session “Implementation of the Water Strategy as a move towards water security” and a number of thematic sections:
- Implementation assessment of the Water Strategy,
- Activities as part of implementation of the Water Strategy,
- Environmental rehabilitation and water bodies restoration,
- Innovation technologies in the water systems of industries and settlements,
- Issues related to modernization of water supply and sanitation systems. Concessions in municipal sector,
- Ecological education and environment-oriented outlook as a main factor of the society’s sustainable development.
In addition, the program included a workshop-meeting “Flood risk management”, open workshop of the European Center for River Restoration (ECRR) “Implementation of river restoration projects”, and two round tables – “National water strategies: international cooperation to minimize threats to water security on transboundary water bodies” and “Role and tasks of nongovernmental organizations and civil society institutes in provision of environmental security at the federal and regional levels”.
In addition, several exhibitions were organized to present innovations in rational use and protection of water bodies, as well as children and youth’s water art work.
During the round table “National water strategies: international cooperation to minimize threats to water security on transboundary water bodies”, Dr. I.F.Beglov from SIC ICWC made a report on “SIC ICWC’s experience in water decision support in the Aral Sea basin”.
