SIC ICWC AND IICA MEETING

The Director of SIC ICWC Prof. V. Dukhovniy visited the International Institute for Central Asia (IICA), where he had a meeting with the Institute’s Director Mr. Anvar Nasirov.

The parties discussed the present situation in water sectors of the Central Asian states, the matters of environmental improvement in the region, and the promising areas of water and environmental cooperation. SIC ICWC shared information on early results of the Expert Platform on Water Security, Sustainable Development and Future Studies that was established following an initiative of the President of Uzbekistan Sh. Mirziyoyev voiced at the Summit of the Heads of IFAS founder-states in August 2018.

Finally, the parties agreed to carry out joint research, also with the involvement of partners from the Central Asian countries.

IICA includes in its structure a division for water and environmental research. Among its objectives are enhancing trust and cooperation on water and environment between the Central Asian countries and assisting in finding mutually acceptable decisions on rational transboundary use and environmental protection. Moreover, an important task is to arrange a space for regional dialogue on the above issues among experts and academia.
