SESSION “WATER, CULTURE AND HERITAGE: CONNECTING WATER MANAGEMENT CHALLENGES WITH WATER RELATED HERITAGE”
The side event on water, culture and heritage “Connecting water management challenges with water related heritage” was organized in the hybrid format on the sidelines of the Amsterdam International Water Week (AIWW) on the 8th of November.
The side event was organized by ICOMOS ISC Water Heritage / ICOMOS Netherlands Focus Group Water & Heritage, in cooperation with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, WaterNet AGV, Wetskills, Koninklijk Nederlands WaterNetwerk, Amsterdam International Water Week, TUDelft and Museum Geelvinck (Global Network of Water Museums).
The side event at the AIWW was to initiate the development of the international Water, Culture and Heritage Platform. In particular, participants of the side event presented the Dutch water-related heritage and national programs to bridge the mandatory, institutional and disciplinary divides between water management and the heritage, reflected on the significance of traditional water management systems, including in Indonesia and Spain, talked on water museums all over the world and their role in increasing public awareness, especially among children and youth.
Representative of SIC ICWC, Oygul Usmanova, who participated online, presented the water-related heritage in Central Asia and the lessons that could be drawn from this heritage for future water management in the region.
