SIC ICWC TOOK PART IN THE FIRST WEBINAR OF THE CROSS-REGIONAL LEARNING FOR TRANSFORMATIVE WATER DIPLOMACY
The kick-off webinar of a new project “Cross-regional learning for transformative water diplomacy (CROWD)” was held on 25th January. SIC ICWC is a member of the project consortium of 13 institutes and organizations from the Netherlands, India, Sudan, Jordan, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, US, Germany and Finland under the leadership of the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education. The Project is to strengthen capacities of young researchers through joint learning at trainings and workshops and comparative research on water diplomacy.
The objective of the first project event was to introduce partners, discuss project goals and tasks for the whole period and for 2024 in particular. The kick-off event brought together over 30 people from 9 states. Those included the representatives of higher education institutions, government and non-government organizations, regional and interregional institutions, private companies and transboundary water and climate change centers. SIC ICWC was represented by Dinara Ziganshina, Sherzod Muminov, Alexander Dolidudko, and Matluba Rakhimova.
The aspects of cooperation and mitigation of conflicts around large infrastructure were selected as a key theme for the first project year. How can processes around the planning, development and management of large infrastructure projects be designed in a way that supports fair, equitable and sustainable development and cooperation? How can water diplomacy transform traditional ways of decision-making around large infrastructure (largely driven by economic output considerations) into more integrated approaches?
