New publications of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan - the National Environmental Report of the Republic of Uzbekistan and its illustrated summary, FAO Guidelines on food loss and waste reduction and a presentation on ecotourism development and nature sustainability in Uzbekistan: tips for tour operators, local authorities and visitors were launched.
The National Environmental Report is a comprehensive document on the current environmental situation and trends in the context of socio-economic development in the country. It also provides an overview of relevant policy priorities, strategies and other documents designed to outline a plan of measures to address environmental problems. The report reflects the international commitments of the Republic as set out in the Sustainable Development Goals, multilateral environmental agreements and other international documents aimed at addressing issues related to human health and well-being in the context of environmental quality. The report was prepared with the support of UNECE, UNEP, International Institute for Sustainable Development, FAO and “Zoi” environmental network.
FAO guidelines on food loss and waste reduction contains easy to use tips and recommendations for preventing food waste. This publication will support everyone along the journey from buying to consuming food. By following these practical tips and recommendations, presented in infographic format, everyone can and should change their behavioral patterns and take appropriate decisions to change daily habits that, very often, cause unnecessarily large amounts of such waste.
Another initiative of the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan is a publication dedicated to the development of ecotourism and sustainability of nature in Uzbekistan. It is presented in the form of a colorfully illustrated booklet for tour operators, local authorities and tourists. The booklet gives the information about natural and cultural landmarks in mountains of the Republic, tourist seasons, and most importantly about the benefits and risks to nature from tourism and also answers the important question: what should be done to reduce a negative impact of human on mountain ecosystem.
Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of Uzbekistan, Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov, UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director, Mrs. Inger Andersen, FAO Assistant Director-General, Mr. Viorel Gutu, UNECE Regional Adviser, Mrs. Sarangoo Radnaaragchaa, representatives of governmental and international organizations, scientific communities and other organizations took part in the launching event.
