DISCUSSION ON THE REGIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE ADAPTATION STRATEGY IN CENTRAL ASIA
On May 13, SIC ICWC had a consultation meeting with the Green Central Asia Initiative team comprised of Cholpon Aytakhunova and Dominic Stucker (Collective Leadership Institute). Muzaffar Ernazarov (GIZ GCA) also participated in the meeting. Deputy Director Alisher Nazariy and heads of divisions took part in the meeting from the side of SIC ICWC.
The parties discussed the Regional climate change adaptation strategy in Central Asia and the matters related to its implementation, particularly, formation of the Secretariat, mobilization of financing, a Regional Action Plan on joint political dialogue on climate, environment and security.
The Regional strategy was drafted as part of the Green Central Asia Initiative. The document was presented at the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Dubai, UAE in December 2023 and approved by the governments of all the Central Asian countries. The strategy aims to develop a mechanism of cooperation between the countries in the region to work together in addressing the negative impacts of climate change and implementing adaptation measures.
