STUDY OF THE STATE OF WATER MANAGEMENT AND WATER PRICING IN THE UPPER REACHES OF THE SYR DARYA RIVER BASIN

On September 8-11, IWMI together with SIC ICWC organized a visit to Osh province, Kyrgyzstan to study the state of water management and water pricing in the upper reaches of the Syr Darya River basin. This visit was organized as part of the project “WE-ACT: Water Efficient Allocation in a Central Asian Transboundary River Basin” and the CGIAR Nexus Gains initiative.

Representatives of IWMI, KaraDarya–SyrDarya–AmuDarya Basin Water Authority, Osh Basin Water Authority, Aravan District Water Authority, WUAs and water users took part in the meetings. Deputy Director Sh. Muminov participated in the meetings on behalf of SIC ICWC.

During the meetings, the participants addressed the current issues of water management and water pricing in the upper reaches of the Syr Darya River basin and actively discussed possible recommendations for their solution in the future.
