RETNO MARSUDI APPOINTED AS AN UN SPECIAL ENVOY ON WATER

On September 13, 2024, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the appointment of Retno L. P. Marsudi of the Republic of Indonesia as his Special Envoy on Water.



The purpose of her mission is galvanizing partnerships and concrete efforts to advance the water agenda, including the follow up on the outcomes of the United Nations (UN) 2023 Water Conference.

Mrs. Marsudi will support efforts to ensure water security for all by advocating for stronger political, economic, and social-cultural cooperation at all levels.

Representing the United Nations Secretary-General in global water processes, Mrs. Marsudi will also work with UN-WATER and its members in support of the implementation of the UN System-wide Strategy on Water and Sanitation at all levels, in line with the SDG 6 Global Accelerator Framework.

She brings distinguished experience in diplomacy with almost four decades, serving as the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia from 2014-October 2024. She oversaw the conduct of the 10th World Water Forum in Bali 2024.

Retno Marsudi will take up her role as Special Envoy for Water on 1st November 2024.
