2024 "YEAR-IN-REVIEW" OF THE WOMEN IN WATER DIPLOMACY NETWORK

The annual online event of the Women in Water Diplomacy Network was held on 17 December 2024. During two hours the members summarized year’s results, discussed key successes and outlined plans for 2025.

The Women in Water Diplomacy Network is a community of practice comprised of both formal and informal women decision-makers and experts, representing a wealth of collective experience and expertise in transboundary water management and decision-making. Originating in the Nile Basin in 2017, the Network is now a global community of women water leaders, and male champions supporting gender equality, working collectively to strengthen women's leadership in transboundary water decision making with support from a global coalition of partners and members in the Nile, Central Asia, Southern Africa, North America, and the South Caucasus.

The key highlights of the Network's activity are:

  • the 2024 Global Network Forum in Vienna;
  • active engagement in key international events, including the Cairo Water Week/ Africa Water Week, Stockholm World Water Week and the Dushanbe Process;
  • development of a the new regional Network in the South Caucasus.

During the online event members discussed the potential seminar themes for the next year, the establishment of the new Global Network Leadership Council in 2025, how to better organize research cooperation initiatives and the ways for sustainable financing sources for the Network’s sustainable development.

Usmanova Oygul, who joined the Network in early 2023, participated in the event on behalf of SIC ICWC.
