A WORKSHOP ON THE GLACIERS TO FARMS PROGRAM

On 7 April 2025, an in-country workshop was held as part of the G2F Regional Program to advance climate resilience and sustainable development in Central and West Asia at Green University premises in Tashkent.



The focus was on the discussion of the G2F initiative developed by the Asian Development Bank and the Green Climate Fund. The program aims to enhance applied scientific mechanisms for adaptation to climate change through monitoring of cryosphere, sustainable management of water resources and enhancement of food security.



The workshop was organized by the PEGASYS consultancy, which specializes in project development and organization of events for the engagement of national and regional stakeholders.

The following key issues were addressed during the workshop:

  • Impact of glacier melting on water and agriculture;
  • Adaptation of agricultural sector to climate change;
  • Early warning systems;
  • Strengthening of transboundary water cooperation;
  • Mobilization of financing for long-term climate solutions.

The G2F Program envisages mobilizing US$3.5 billion over a period of 7 years (2026-2032) with proposed US$250 million co-financing from the Green Climate Fund (GCF).

The workshop brought together 15 representatives of national and international organizations, including Gulnoza Khamdamova representing SIC ICWC.

Particular attention was paid to inter-departmental cooperation and the role of the National Center for Climate Change at the Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change as an executive body of the Сlimate Council under the President of Uzbekistan, which coordinates national adaptation efforts

The participants reported on activities of their organizations in the context of climate change and glacial melting, on the current use of cryospheric data, cooperation with international organizations, and on existing analytical tools.
