MEETING WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF CHINESE RESEARCH AND ACADEMIC INSTITUTIONS

On 3 October, SIC ICWC hosted a meeting with a delegation of scientists from the People’s Republic of China. The delegation was led by Professor Liu Te, Faculty of Geoinformatics, Zhejiang University of Technology and included Professor Pan Xiaohui from the Xinjiang Institute of Ecology and Geography, Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with PhD student Zhalilov Sirozhiddin.

SIC ICWC was represented by Deputy Directors Sherzod Muminov and Alisher Nazariy.

Initiated by the Chinese side, the meeting aimed to introduce the delegation to the activities, goals, and priorities of SIC ICWC.

During the discussions, both parties exchanged views on potential areas of joint research. Special emphasis was placed on the digitization of water resource management and the implementation of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tailored to the needs of Central Asian countries—technologies that have already been piloted in several river basins in China.

SIC ICWC staff presented an overview of ongoing scientific research, current projects and experience in the field. The Chinese delegation received comprehensive responses to their questions.

The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement on the importance of formalizing cooperation. Both sides emphasized the need to sign a Memorandum of Understanding between the three institutions to establish a framework for future collaboration.
