Peer-to-Peer Project Launch: SIC ICWC and EC IFAS build cooperation with twinbasins in Africa

To address water-related challenges, we need to build bridges of cooperation. This is what exactly a new Peer-to-Peer (P2P) Project will do as part of the INBO's "Twin Basin Initiative", which aims to improve the sustainable management of water resources by creating a space for direct exchange of knowledge and expertise between basin organizations.

On the 9th of October, SIC ICWC experts (Dinara Ziganshina and Oygul Usmanova) took part in the first online meeting, which served as a starting point for building a professional exchange network. The Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM) and Lake Victoria Basin Commission (LVBC) are considered as a potential peers for SIC ICWC and EC IFAS in Central Asia.

During the meeting, the participants presented their respective organizations, explaining organizational framework, geographical scope, key areas of activity, and outlined their interests and potential areas for collaboration.

In the course of open discussion, participants asked clarifying questions, particularly regarding the information systems maintained by the participating organizations. Possible forms of cooperation and prospects for further steps within the project framework were also discussed. SIC ICWC expressed interest in developing mutual exchange of experience on improving the usability and practical relevance of collected data, as well as on the implementation and integration of nature-based solutions into basin management processes.
