SIC ICWC Holds Second Webinar “Basics of Water Management”
On 2 December, SIC ICWC held its second webinar for specialists of BWO Syr Darya as part of the training series “Basics of Water Management.”
More than 50 employees of BWO Syr Darya took part in the event, representing the Naryn–Karadarya, Gulistan (including the Dustlik Canal), and Upper Chirchik waterworks authorities, as well as the Charvak Reservoir Administration.
During the webinar, experts of SIC ICWC - Nazir Mirzaev and Avazbek Risbekov delivered presentations.
Nazir Mirzaev delived the second lecture in the series titled “Water Management: General.” His lecture covered key concepts and terminology in water management—including management, governance, operation, maintenance, water supply, water use, and water disposal—explaining both their broad and narrow meanings. He also outlined the existing levels and types of water management in Central Asia.
Avazbek Risbekov delivered a presentation “Transboundary Rivers all over the World and in the Aral Sea Basin.” He provided an overview of major transboundary rivers globally and discussed international principles and mechanisms of water cooperation.
Particular attention was paid to the Amu Darya and the Syr Darya as the key rivers in the Aral Sea basin, their role for the Central Asian countries, and the issues related to water allocation, negative environmental effects, and the resulting need to strengthen regional cooperation.
SIC ICWC continues advancing training initiatives aimed build professional knowledge and skills of specialists in the water management sector.
