Women in Water Diplomacy Network Reflects on the Year
On 3 December 2025, the Women in Water Diplomacy Network (WWDN) held its annual online session, “Year-in-Review 2025,” bringing together over 150 members and partners from around the world, including representatives of expert communities, diplomatic bodies, international organizations, and regional initiatives. The event, organized as an open global meeting, provided an opportunity to review the Network’s activities in 2025, discuss the achievements of its regional chapters, and outline key priorities for 2026.
WWDN is an international community of practice comprised of women water diplomats, decision-makers, and experts representing a wealth of collective experience and expertise with focus on shared waters in water insecure and conflict sensitive regions of the world. Since its founding in the Nile Basin in 2017, the Network has evolved into a global community that now includes Central Asia and Afghanistan, Southern Africa, the South Caucasus, North and South America, and other regions.
Speaking on behalf of the Central Asia and Afghanistan chapter, Oygul Usmanova, SIC ICWC highlighted the chapter’s key activities in 2025 and the support that SIC ICWC provides to the Network’s work.
In conclusion, the new areas of work for the WWDN made possible through dedicated partner support were presented. These include preparations for active participation in the 2026 UN Water Conference, with events planned in Senegal and UAE, as well as the launch of a global webinar series in 2026 supported by the GIZ Global Water Security program.
