CROMO-ADAPT (Cryospheric Observation and Modelling for Improved Adaptation in Central Asia)

Contractor: SIC ICWC

Implementation period: 01.04.2025 – 31.12.2025

Climate change in the mountainous regions of Central Asia has a significant impact on water resources and disaster risks. Glaciers, snow, and permafrost play a key role in runoff formation, especially during dry months. However, cryosphere monitoring systems in the region are underdeveloped, particularly in high mountain areas.

Project objective:

The main goal of this project is to promote effective collaboration between the scientific community and decision-making bodies, in order to ensure the integration of scientific data and cryospheric modeling results into policy development and planning processes for water resource management and climate change adaptation in Central Asian countries such as Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.

Specific objectives and tasks:

1. 1. A Science-Policy Dialogue at the International Conference on Glaciers (Dushanbe): Based on the programming and making use of the supporting messages and material, support or lead the organization of at least one event (forum or thematic session) which allows the participation of SDC and project representatives with the aim of achieving progress on the science-policy dialogue related to the project. This event or these events should also help to collect key messages from national stakeholders and mapping the expressed needs.

2. Production and dissemination of supporting messages and materials: Identify information, knowledge or messages that are missing to key stakeholders and could be useful for nurturing science-policy dialogue, and its intended recipients. After OK from SDC and in consultation with the project team, prepare supporting material (policy brief, infographic or other supporting material) in a format that is accessible, understandable and attractive for the intended recipients in both English and Russian.
